Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope was delighted to receive the proceeds of a thrilling five-a-side football tournament that took place at the Arsenal Hub, on Sunday 9th October.
Almost £1000 was raised by boys and staff of St Columba’s College in St Albans, who played against teams from the Arsenal Community – a local initiative that brings together people who, through their love of football, gain skills and companionship they may not otherwise receive.
The tournament was organised by the Arsenal amputee team and their coach Luke Howard. It came about after St Columba’s student James Bromfield approached Arsenal and asked if they could help raise money for ELoH – and what better way to do it than hosting a football tournament? The amputee team was thrilled about the chance of helping other amputees regain their mobility. Arts teacher Joe Tatham got together students and staff at St Columba’s to form teams and start the fundraising.
The Arsenal tournament was a real success with plenty of energetic players, great football moves and happy faces. ELoH Founders Sarah Hope and Victoria Bacon were both present and they brought their families to the Hub – Christopher and Barnaby Hope participating in the tournament and Pollyanna Hope and Rollo and Ranulph Bacon selling crisps, squash and sweets.
All teams did exceptionally well and all players – from six form students, to teachers and senior community members – enjoyed themselves. After three hours of intensive games, the tournament finally had a winning team: Bayern NeverLose. Well done Tom, Joe, Rory, Ned and Nick!
The ELoH team would also like to send a massive thank you to everyone who made the tournament possible and in particular to Joe Tatham and James Bromfield from St Columba’s, and to Luke Howard and the Arsenal amputee team – thanks to you more amputee children will get the chance to walk, skip, run and go to school!
