On Sunday, 13th April 2014, ELoH co-founders and twin sisters Sarah Hope and Victoria Bacon completed the 34th London Marathon to raise money for a new project in Liberia.
Running next to each other, holdings hands or holding fingers, Sarah and Victoria managed a fantastic time of 5:19, which included stopping for a little chat at Tower Bridge with Denise Lewis for a mid-marathon interview. It was an incredible day!
On top of the incredible feat of marathon-running itself, Sarah and Victoria’s fundraising efforts for our partnership with Street Child have been very successful. With GiftAid, the twins have raised £25,400 for ELoH’s new project in Liberia. What is more, our partner organisation has been selected for the UK government’s UK Aid Match scheme, which means that all donations made by individuals will be doubled, bringing us up to well over £30k.
Sarah and Victoria’s efforts have also helped us get some wonderful media coverage in the run-up to, during and after the Marathon. For example here and here. The BBC, too, covered our story on marathon day. Watch a little montage about how ELoH came to be from 15:15, and then, at 16:40 the mid-marathon interview with Sarah and Vee here.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the many, many generous contributions from our supporters – a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported Sarah and Victoria during the London Marathon and will help us help child amputees in Liberia.
